Vodafone holders reject activist plan

The shareholders of UK telecommunications firm Vodafone Group PLC rejected the proposals of activist investor entity Efficient Capital Structures. The proposals included spinning off Vodafone's 45% stake in US-based Verizon Wireless and releasing $69.96 bil to shareholders via bond issues.

Vodafone to cut roaming charges before EU move

Article Abstract:

Vodafone Group PLC of the United Kingdom has announced a reduction in roaming fees by 40 percent to less than 44 European cents (70 U.S. cents) a minute from over 90 European cents. The mobile phone industry has been hit with stiffer fee regulation by the European Union.

Subscriber growth helps China Unicom results

China Unicom Ltd. posted an almost 13-fold increase in its net profits for the 2001 first-half. The company posted 2.19 billion yuan (289.1 million euros) in net profits for the period.
