Welsh Assembly building delayed as costs 'double'

Article Abstract:

The planned new Welsh Assembly building is not expected to be completed until the beginning of 2002 after problems with both the building design and costs. Initial building costs have risen from 12.5 million pounds sterling to 27 million pounds sterling leaving assembly members querying the need for such as expensive assembly hall. The building designer, Richard Rogers Partnership has been instructed to make alterations to the planned visitors gallery, so more people can be accommodated and access for the disabled is improved. Part of the construction agreement is to ensure use of local products and services during the project.

Cardiff's Millennium Stadium attacked from all sides

Article Abstract:

Planning permission has been granted for the 144 million pounds sterling Millennium Stadium designed by the Lobb Partnership for Cardiff, Wales, as long as 44 conditions are met by Sep 1997. However, the scheme is attracting criticism from many different sources. Some observers believe that the existing stand should not be retained, while others have criticised the incorporation into the overall design of a renovated north stand. There is also a feeling that there is not a need for such an expensive building.
