What NeXT for Apple?

Article Abstract:

The design industry is an established user of the Apple Mac, but the lack of appropriate software has caused many users to turn to rival Microsoft. Apple's decision to license its Mac operating system (OS) to other computer makers gives users a greater choice of hardware. Apple's recent acquisition of NeXT is part of its long-term plan to develop a new OS based on the NeXT system, which should be available in mid-1998. The new software will give existing Mac users greater versatility without loss of function.
