When expats fall ill

Article Abstract:

Swiss-based expatriates are advised to study their medical coverage plans as new health insurance regulations that has led to an increase in premiums and differing tariffs on various health insurers have been implemented. Expatriates in the country are affected by these changes based on their resident status. They should ensure that their medical insurance plans cover family needs and that they are not paying too much. However, expatriates who come from countries with bilateral social security agreements with Switzerland are exempted from compulsory medical coverage.

Travel without tears

Article Abstract:

Swiss residents should check their travel insurance before taking overseas trips because of the revisions in health-insurance regulations that took effect in Jan 1996. Travellers who are going to the United States, Canada or Japan are advised to get higher coverage insurance because hospital and treatment expenses in those countries are higher. Residents who only have basic health insurance will have to get supplementary insurance to ensure adequate protection for themselves and their families.
