Teamwork has become one of the most popular management buzzwords at a time when an increasing number of corporate organizations are embracing the concepts of employee empowerment and total quality management. However, the reality behind the buzzword is more complex than many managers might imagine. Before a team can be used as a potent organizational problem-solving unit, seven fundamental issues that can make or break a team's effectiveness must be tackled. These are the so-called '7 Rs': roles, relationships, rules, rituals, results, rewards and raison d'etre.
