Why risk is a four-letter word

Article Abstract:

Investors have become risk averse and have favored government bonds from large, wealthy countries, rather than stocks, while emerging markets have been hit by investors' risk aversion. There is increasing concern that a world recession could occur, so government bonds become more attractive. Leverage can boost returns but can also magnify losses. Banks have seen shrinking capital. Financial markets may have overreacted, but investors will need to be patience to take advantage of opportunities.
