Wireless on the Web

Article Abstract:

A piece of software enables an Internet user to listen to radio broadcasts from around the world on their computer sound system. The user can either download a free piece of software, or opt to pay a $29.99 licence fee to download the superior RealPlayer Plus 4.0 program. This manipulates audio files available on the Internet so that, after a short delay, the user can listen to the file as it is received over the Internet. The sound quality is as good as on a radio. Search engines, or specific Web page numbers, will reveal the broadcasters who make their output available on the Internet.

Image is everything

Article Abstract:

Hewlett-Packard's range of digital photography equipment includes a printer which uses glossy paper similar to traditional photographic paper. The price of both printer and paper are still relatively expensive, at around HK$4,988 for the PhotoSmart Printer and HK$120 for 20 postcard-sized sheets of paper, but prices will fall. The digital photography technology is easy to install, and the manipulation of images is interesting. The grainy quality of prints is not much improved by using the special paper, but there is a marked improvement in vibrancy and colour.

Microchip moments: digital cameras capture that flash of inspiration

Article Abstract:

The latest digital cameras have a light sensitive microchip rather than a film, and pictures are stored digitally in computer memory inside the camera, which can then by downloaded into a PC. The quality of optics, resolution of the light sensitive chip and the type of storage determine how much a camera will cost, with a simple camera costing around $300. When downloaded into a computer common faults can be corrected and shots can be altered.
