Worth the wait

Article Abstract:

China's cellular phone industry is penetrating a bigger share of the market as competition sets in and prices decline. The number of cellular phone subscribers has grown 12.5% in 1997 to 6.75 million and is projected to reach 18 million by 2000. The growth means cellular phones are no longer limited to the country's wealthy people, but have also penetrated the urban middle class. Great Wall Mobile Telecom Co., meanwhile, is soon expected to join the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications and China United telecommunications Corp. in providing cellular service.
