War on the web

Article Abstract:

The Internet is a good source of information on the war in Yugoslavia, with web sites available from the US State Department, Albania and Yugoslavia. There are different sites showing the Serbian point of view, with some more sophisticated than others, and sites from the US which express opinions opposed to the war. Information from within Kosovo, Yugoslavia, has ended, though information is available on refugees from the Kosovo Crisis Center. These sites allow direct contact with participants in the conflict, and should help future historians.

Hard sell

Article Abstract:

The marketing techniques of Web pornographers can be instructive. Pictures may be sent to internet newsgroups as samples to advertise wares, a form of advertising which does not cost the vendor anything. Bait may be used to persuade people to pay. False advertising is common, and words such as 'teeny' may be used as bait. Unsolicited e-mails and other techniques used in marketing porn are used to market other products on the internet, including those from large companies such as Microsoft.
