Write-offs cheer investors

Article Abstract:

Osaka-based Daiwa Bank Ltd. will report a loss of 18 billion yen ($146.6 million) for the year ending March 31, largely because it is taking a write off of 32 billion yen in loans to Tokyo Mutual Life Insurance Co. The insurer is filing for court-led rehabilitation. Asahi Bank Ltd. will report a net loss of 10 billion yen for the fiscal year ending on March 31, partly because it is pushing forward with its plans to eliminate its own bad loans.
