YPF takeover would put Repsol in oil's big league

Article Abstract:

Repsol SA's unsolicited offer of $13.5 billion to acquire YPF SA is expected to make the Spanish-based company one of the leading oil firms in the world. Repsol, a oil, gas, and chemical group, made its unexpected bid to acquire the 85% of YPF it does not already own. Repsol decided against demand for a bylaw change at YPF that would have made it possible to gain control of the company by way of an exchange of shares.
