YUGOSLAVIA: AUSTRIAN RZB GETS LICENCE

Article Abstract:

RZB is to open a subsidiary in Belgrade in the 3rd quarter of 2001. The Yugoslav National Bank granted the licence on 9 March 2001. Raiffeisen Jugoslavija will be the first pure foreign bank in Belgrade, and it will serve both companies and private individuals. RZB is planning to open branches in other main centres such as Nis and Novi Sad.

Austria: Volksbank determined to remain Austrian

Article Abstract:

The Austrian Volksbank has ensured that it will remain a majority Austrian banking group by setting up a Volksbank Holding company which will hold 55% of the Volksbank group's basic capital. The scheme is designed to ensure the Volksbank's long term independence. The bank is also to increasingly allow banks in other countries to use its network.
