Article Abstract:

The activities of John Huang, who has been dismissed from his job on the Democratic National Committee and is now the subject of investigations by the Commerce Dept and the Justice Dept, indicate that Asian-Americans are now playing a key role at the very centre of US politics. Asian-Americans have traditionally not become involved in politics, but Huang has broken Asian stereotypes. However, he seems to have been too obvious in breaking the rules as he sought to enter the political mainstream.

St Petersburg remains a bleak, unaccommodating city, outside of its Marinsky Theatre, five years after the end of communism. It is not likely to succeed in hosting the 2004 Olympics, but there will be other celebrations of its 300th anniversary, including a replica of Peter the Great's ship 'Standard.'
