Article Abstract:
A new European command structure has been developed for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). There has been some rivalry between member countries over jobs, including the United Kingdom and Germany. There are two second-tier commands in Europe under the new arrangements, rather than three as was previously the case. France has returned to NATO following an absence of 29 years, and France has helped to design NATO's new structure, though no NATO commands are being set up in France.
