Russia readies plan to pipe oil to East

Russia is planning to build a pipeline that will ship oil from Siberia to China and Japan. It will be the first Russian oil pipeline to ship oil to those two countries.

The investigation of Yukos Oil Co. tycoons has highlighted civil rights issues in Russia, raising concerns that President Vladimir Putin is failing to control politically motivated attacks cloaked as law enforcement. Claims against the Kremlin include the jailing of Yukos chief executive Mikhail Khodorkovsky, who financed opposition campaigns, and searching the offices of defense lawyers.
