Continental Airlines Inc., on 6 January 2005, stated that it might run out of cash if it does not win wage and benefit concessions worth $500 million from its employees by February 28, 2005. The fifth-largest US carrier warned of inadequate liquidity in a filing with federal regulators and stated that it expects to lose hundreds of million of dollars in 2005 without cost cuts under existing market conditions.

US Airways will increase its flight on five of the routes Southwest will serve and do it a week ahead of the discounter's start on 9 May 2004. US Airways, with the additional flights, will have nine daily round-trips between Philadelphia and Orlando, eight round- trips to Chicago's O'Hare Airport, seven round-trips to providence, six round-trips to Las Vegas, and four round-trips to Phoenix.
