Greenspan urges action on Social Security

Article Abstract:

United States Federal Reserve Chairman, Alan Greenspan, states that the country would face difficulties if the Congress did not move quickly to trim the Social Security and Medicare benefits. He is of the view that if the country had promised more than the ability of its economy to deliver, it would have to recalibrate its public programs so that pending retirees have time to adjust through other channels.

Greenspan: Protectionism isn't the answer

Article Abstract:

Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan warned that 'protectionist cures' that was advanced to deal with the country's job insecurities would make the situation worse. Greenspan stated that it was a lack of adequate education and training rather than 'outsourcing' that posed the greatest threat to future American prosperity.

Pension agency's shortfall doubles

Article Abstract:

The US government agency that insures the private pensions of 44.4 million workers has put its deficit to a record $23.3 billion in 2004. The move has prompted both, Democrats and Republicans in Congress to renew calls for action to sustain the system.
