Later Vanguard trading deadline draws criticism

Article Abstract:

Vanguard Group Inc. affected investors who exchange one Vanguard index or international mutual fund for another as it changed it policy of trading mutual funds. Vanguard extended its deadline to 4 p.m. daily from 2:30 p.m., which would allow fund managers to buy or sell security the same day, and to calculate a more accurate price for the funds shares once the market closes.

Vanguard fights to increase rollover business

The Vanguard Group Inc. is bolstering its retirement counseling and financial planning services, as it prepares for upcoming retirement-age savers to begin collecting their funds. Many savers rollover their 401(k) funds into Individual Retirement Accounts, and Vanguard presently ranks number 2 among 40l(k) administrators and has retirement accounts values at $165 billion.

The mutual fund firm Vanguard, which once drew crowds and money, is slipping in its usually stellar services and also the assurances given to investors. Vanguard's cost-cutting measures could be an impediment as reform measures always add expense for fund companies.
