Loans to students help but fall short: Fixing a popular U.S. program may mean students pay more

The US President George W. Bush and Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts urged the need to modernize the 39-year old federal student-loan programs. Bush and Republicans in the House of Representatives asked graduates to pay higher interest in order to generate more money for students to borrow.

Dollars twists and turns have effects on earnings

Article Abstract:

The Federal Reserve of US revealed that currencies of US trading partners rose more than 7% against the dollar in the first quarter of 2004 but that gain narrowed around 4% for the April 2004. The higher interest rates and rebounding of U.S. economy have raised the U.S. corporate earnings.

Fewer apply for jobless benefits

The number of people in the United States filing new applications for unemployment benefits has dropped in the month of March 2004. This indicates that the companies are feeling better about the country's economic recovery's durability and less inclined to lay off workers.
