Mixed trading by the Dow

Dow Jones & Co. Inc. decided to oust AT&T Corp., International Paper Co., and Eastman Kodak Co., in favor of telephone company Verizon communications Inc. and drug maker Pfizer Inc., thereby reshuffling its benchmark industrial average for the first time in more than four years. John Prestbo, editor of Dow Jones Indexes revealed that this trading was designed to give a more accurate reflection of the US economy.

Nextel and Verizon's surprise deal

Article Abstract:

Nextel Communications Inc. and Verizon Wireless are settling all legal disputes between them, removing a key challenge to a federal decision that would help clear up interference between cell phones and emergency response radios. The deal has resolved the dispute over spectrum interference in which each company accused the other of putting business interests ahead of public-safety concerns.

AT&T to cut 7,500 jobs, slash book value by 25 percent

Article Abstract:

AT&T Corp. lost a court battle, which forced them to cut at least 7,500 more jobs and reduce the book value of its assets by $11.4 billion to reduce depreciation expense by about $1 billion. The company reported that the acceleration of job cuts, reduced marketing and other efforts to reduce costs were having a positive effect on profitability across the business.
