A fast track to the top?

Article Abstract:

A master of business administration (MBA) degree is no guarantee of success, as managers are often more impressed by those who have worked their way up from the shop floor. There has been justified criticism of MBA graduates, however there is growth in MBA courses and an awareness of the need to strengthen links between businesses and colleges. Only 32 management schools have attained the AMBA, the Association of MBAs, which sets out to promote management education.

Getting a fix on fees: a mixture of fees and commissions makes it hard enough for rocket scientists to understand stockbrokers' charges, let alone the rest of us. At the end of the day, what matters is the net result

Article Abstract:

Stockbrokers sometimes charge a fee on top of dealing commission, and many brokers are moving towards fees and more direct asset management. A survey of investment managers focused on the costs of discretionary management of a portfolio based on low turnover of 20% a year and high turnover of 50% a year. A 100,000 pounds sterling portfolio averaged 953 pounds sterling on a low turnover and 1,383 pounds sterling on a high turnover.

Tortuous taxspeke translated

Article Abstract:

Personal equity plans (PEPs) allow both small and large investors to invest up to 6,000 pounds sterling a year tax-free. While the UK Inland Revenue's publication PEPs - Guidance Notes for Plan Manager provides comprehensive information on tax-free investment it is too complicated for the average investor to understand. A lay-man's guide to PEP investment is presented.
