Article Abstract:

Union des Assurances de Paris (UAP) has had to carry out write-offs linked to real estate activities. The company has offloaded around 40% of its real estate portfolio so is better able to focus on its insurance activities. UAP's insurance operating earnings were up by 14% in 1st half 1996. Banque Worms has still reported a loss, but this has been reduced. The company's earnings for full-year 1996 are forecast at some 1.7 billion French francs.
