Absolute protein expression profiling estimates the relative contributions of transcriptional and translational regulation

Article Abstract:

A method is described for large-scale absolute protein expression measurements (APEX) and it is applied to estimate the relative contributions of transcriptional- and translational-level gene regulation in yeast and Escherichia coli proteomes. The results have shown that both eukaryotic and prokaryotic proteins are set per mRNA molecule and independently of overall protein concentration, with greater than 70% of yeast gene expression regulation occurring through mRNA-directed mechanisms.

The need for a public proteomics repository

Article Abstract:

The availability of protein expression data is very poor indicating the need for a public proteomics repository. Protein expression data should be combined with DNA microarray or protein interaction data for developing quantitative models of cellular events and make new advancements in computational research in functional genomics.
