Air Force gets $4 billion raise; faces Raptor cuts

Article Abstract:

The proposed Air Force budget for fiscal year 2006 has modest increases for many programs and significant cuts for a few, including the F/A-22 Raptor fighter aircraft and the C-130J Hercules transport plane. The proposed budget total for the Air Force came to $127.4 billion for discretionary funding, but more realistic $102.9 billion figure would constitute a 6.4 percent increase from its fiscal 2005 counterpart figure of $96.7 billion.

New rescue platform's mission now more focused--experts

Article Abstract:

The Personnel Recovery Vehicle (PRV) of the US Air Force is renamed as the combat search and rescue (CSAR)-X in an attempt to acquire a new platform for CSAR missions but conjectures abound as to the actual implications of the name change. One suggestion is that the change in nomenclature indicates a need to focus the platform's role more specifically, possibly in response to budgetary concerns.
