Bad times good for Carlson; CEO builds empire on sales incentive program

Article Abstract:

Curtis L. Carlson, CEO of Carlson Co, believes the current economic downturn enhances business because it increases the importance of sales incentives. Carlson Co has expanded from a seller of Gold Bond trading stamps to a worldwide business involved in sales incentive services, travel and hospitality, employing 98,000 people. Sales at Carlson Co have grown from $5,000 in 1937 to a current multibillion dollar total. Carlson, who is 79 years old, continues to head the company.

Time Warner seeks driver for 'electronic superhighway.' (Time Warner Inc.) (News & Trends)

Article Abstract:

Time Warner Inc is selecting a driver for a new project team that will formulate and market its entry in the electronic superhighway program of the US government. Stamford, CT-based Time Warner Cable, the division in charge of the project, hopes to inaugurate a prototype system in Orlando, FL, by 1994. The giant entertainment firm is expected to offer sophisticated video conferencing for business-to-business clients.
