Chertoff: DHS aims to make strategic, integrated procurements

Article Abstract:

Michael Chertoff secretary of Homeland Security noted that the department intends to obtaining vital technologies and acquisitions and applying the latest technologies strategically as a part of the national security effort. The technologies and acquisitions include purchase of helicopters, screening of identification cards, awareness at the border, defending airliners against terrorist weapons, or the deepwater modernization programme.

Chertoff endorses 'risk management' approach to funding

Article Abstract:

The Secretary of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff, believes that funding priorities should be maintained and regulated according to the 'risk management' principles. Risk management involves complaints about funding and the Department of Homeland Security had earmarked the highest risk cities based on rational criteria and had distinctly distinguished the difference between risk management and risk guarantee.

To fight terrorism, the U.S., European and other allied officials should concentrate on areas like container security, biometrics, secure travel documents and aviation security.
