They include Ann Iverson, paid nearly 3 million pounds sterling including bonuses for two and a half years at Laura Ashley, during which time the company lost nearly 100 million pounds from its stock market value. Diageo qualifies in the category of silly name changes for companies, and is the new name of GrandMet and Guinness, which are merging.

Company reports are important for UK investors who can relate stock prices to factors such as dividends and profit to assess whether shares are fairly valued. The price/earnings ratio is one way of assessing share prices. Stock yields can be compared to market yields. Gearing relates to the amount of debt a company has and highly geared companies should have the type of assets that will allow them to repay debt easily. Long-term track records are important in assessing performance.
