The UK rediscovers its nesting instinct

Article Abstract:

Forecasts indicate that the UK housing market will finally experience a turnaround in 1996 after a protracted period of decline. House prices have finally started to increase, with one estimate showing prices rising by 0.7% in Apr. 1996, which follows increases of about 1% in February and March. The accelerated growth in real personal disposal income in 1996, which reflects higher employment, better average earnings, lower taxes and special windfalls, also bodes well for the housing market. The continued competitiveness in the mortgage market also means that houses will still be quite affordable. However, the housing market will be subdued because borrowers are exercising caution in making long-term debt and expectations on returns on residential property are lower.

How to run a country

Article Abstract:

Accounting students should brush up on their knowledge of macroeconomics because this may be included in examinations. A significant portion of the syllabus of Paper 4, 'The Organizational Framework,' focuses on basic macroeconomic theory. Economic-based questions at the certificate stage are most likely related to topics having a direct impact on the business. Principal macroeconomic concerns of any government include growth, inflation, money supply and monetary policy, employment and inflation, and fiscal policy. Left-leaning and right-oriented governments will possibly have varying priorities and therefore different policies when it comes to macroeconomics. Students should understand the mechanics involved to keep them prepared for macroeconomic-related items.
