David Rogers is restructuring Amstrad is his role as the company's chief executive. Amstrad reported a loss of 20 million pounds sterling in 1994. Alan Sugar sought to take Amstrad private in 1992, but this plan was rejected by investors. Rogers is faced with the task of reviving Amstrad's consumer electronics business. Dancall aims to launch new premium products, and there are also plans to expand Viglen. Rogers also plans to revive Fidelity and Sinclair, brand names of Amstrad.

Hard impact at Compaq

Article Abstract:

Compaq Computer has announced price cuts and a profit warning. The company faces increased competition in the world computer market. Compaq's shares fell after the announcement by almost a fifth. A number of computer manufacturers have cut prices for servers and personal computers. Weaker companies in the computer industry are likely to be pushed out by price competition from major players such as Hewlett Packard, International Business Machines, and Compaq.

Amstrad: resignation hits shares

Article Abstract:

Amstrad has seen a drop in its share price from Christmas 1995 to Jan 1 1996 following an announcement that David Rogers, the company's chief executive, has left. There is speculation that Alan Sugar, chairman of the company, may again seek to take Amstrad private, and that he may be seeking more control of the company. Rogers decided to leave after a board meeting where a decision was taken to scale down Amstrad's consumer electronics business, Ace.
