Coordinating Cash, Credit Management Speeds Export Collections

Article Abstract:

Merging the two concepts of cash management and credit management makes the export collections process faster and simpler. Export sales differ from domestic sales because of dealings with foreign sales agents and letters of credit. Shipping costs, insurance expenses, consulate invoices and on-board ocean bills of lading reflect the greater amount of documentation required in export sales. The credit risk factor and the cash management factor are analyzed. Negotiation of credits can speed up exporter collections by several days. Procedures are outlined for using negotiation. Cooperation between cash management and credit management can also decrease import expenses.

Improving Canadian Cash Management

Article Abstract:

Differences in cash management between Canadian and United States banking systems are outlined. Differences in banking, foreign exchange rates, and borrowing reveal opportunities for improving cash management. Protecting against changes in the exchange rate is done through use of forward exchange contracts, futures, and currency options. A bank's float requirement is reduced through use of the Canadian dual float system. The importance of keeping in close contact with Canadian subsidiaries is emphasized.
