Correction of multi-gene deficiency in vivo using a single 'self-cleaving' 2A peptide-based retroviral vector

Article Abstract:

A complete 2A peptide-mediated cleavage and stoichiometric production of two fluorescent proteins are presented using a fluorescence resonance energy transfer-based system in multiple cell types including blood, thymus, spleen, bone marrow and early stem cell progenitors. The 2A peptides mediate highly efficient generation of individual CD3 chains in this in vitro translation system.

Leaders and laggards in the stem cell enterprise

Article Abstract:

Efforts to commercialize stem cell research have survived against long odds, conventional wisdom, and politics and show signs of intelligent life. Even though the US House of Representatives voted to lift restrictions on the federal funding of embryonic stem (ES) cell research, the number of votes were not sufficient to override the promised rejection by President Bush.

Protein chip companies turn to biomarkers

Article Abstract:

Invitrogen, of Carlsbad, California has unveiled its new protein microarray called ProtoArray, which has 1,800 immobilized human proteins. The array contains a cross-section of gene families including proteins that are useful in drug discovery such as kinases, membrane-associated cell signalling and metabolic proteins.
