Companies should utilize the trade show as part of their integrated marketing strategy due to the advantages that it offers. The effectiveness of exhibitions have already been proven in studies conducted for various entities, such as the Center for Exhibition Industry Research, the Healthcare Convention and Exhibitors Association. Factors such as target audiences and exhibit design should be considered in developing an effective exhibition marketing program.

Trade exhibitors should adopt a Strategic Exhibition Marketing (SEM) plan to ensure marketing success by properly integrating their firms' marketing communications objectives. Starting with senior management support, SEM establishes goals based on company sales, marketing and communications plan. It develops an integrated exhibition program that offers one-on-one meetings with target audiences to better influence them to make purchases.

The study entitled 'Maximizing the Role of Exhibition in the Total Marketing Mix - The Power of Exhibitions II' reveals information on the advantages offered by exhibitions as a marketing tool. In a survey conducted among marketing and sales professionals, exhibitions were considered more effective than business-to-business advertising, provided that the entire marketing mix is fully integrated.
