DHS could pick 3 firms for next phase of anti-missile program

Article Abstract:

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) would announce by the end of August 2004 the name of three companies selected to continue programs that are aimed to convert military aircraft-protection equipment into systems for defending civilian airliners from shoulder-fired missiles. The issues involved as to whether to put defensive systems on airlines where cost is a major concern are addressed to judge, which proposals would be chosen for the Phase II.

Bell increasing payload on LUH candidate

Article Abstract:

Bell Helicopter Textron is increasing the payload of its 210 model, an all-new version of the venerable UH-1Huey hoping that the U.S. Army will select this model as its next light-utility helicopter (LUH). This model is already more powerful and cheaper to operate than the Hueyand and has a maximum weight of 10,500 pounds compared to 9,500 pounds for the older aircraft.
