IES is able to enter the US following the resignation of the founder, who had worked in Iraq. The Middle East also offers growth potential. The company will make a loss in 1999-2000, but could achieve a profit of 500,000 pounds sterling for 2000-2001, and 1.5 million pounds the following year, according to Teather and Greenwood.

Fraud buster trips up

The company carried out a flotation in April 1996 and its share price has not performed well despite the company's good financial performance in the previous two years. The company has been accused of not taking investors seriously and the flotation was affected by reports relating to sales of its shares by BBC Worldwide, a major shareholder.

Demerger offers a value boost

Card Clear plans to demerge the company's credit card fraud prevention operations, and has yet to announce details of these plans. TBR, a US company dealing in fraud prevention, has great potential, and is applying its skills in the field of electronic commerce. TBR combined with Card Clear's customer list and skills, will make the company a strong performer in European markets. Investors could benefit by buying stocks in the company priot to the demerger.
