Blick

Article Abstract:

Blick supplies timing and security equipment, and the company's chief executive aims to develop its core area following a difficult period when sales slowed. Chief executive, Michael Lee, was appointed in Jun 1999 and the company has been awarded a contract by South African Breweries since his appointment. Other contracts involve Nissan, Goodyear and Air Canada, and the company sees potential sales from a rise in part-time work and job sharing in Britain. Blick is also benefiting from digital TV contracts, though there are problems with the communications division and operations in Benelux countries.

Centurion marches off

Article Abstract:

Jan Timmer is leaving Philips, and Cor Boonstra will take over a chief executive and chairman. Timmer is seen as having saved Philips through a restructuring program. He was the key element in Operation Centurion which involved major job shedding after the company reported losses. The company's share price has revived, but Grundig and other subsidiaries are still reporting losses, and some products like CDi systems have not sold as well as was hoped.
