El Paso Natural Gas Co (EPG) is one interstate pipeline that benefits from Order 636 that requires the pipeline industries to offer gas transportation services. EPG is the first major open-access gas transportation company that could provide the increasing gas demand in California through its 3.5 billion cubic foot per day gas capacity and its huge pipeline networks. The company's lower rates save it from offering price discount schemes similar to its competitors. Some companies intention to cancel their plans for this year would enable EPG to claim a major market-share in California.

Richfoods broadens presence on Mid-Atlantic grocery scene

Richfood Holdings Inc (RCHF) has strengthened its position as the mid-Atlantic's ranking wholesaler of food commodities. RCHF's acquisition of the Waynesboro unit of Fleming Cos has supplied the company with 45 retail accounts, a distribution center and other assets, including a valuable licensing right from the Independent Grocers Alliance. A second factor that is expected to add $30 million to RCHF's $1.017 billion 1991 income, is the grocery supply contract awarded by Leedmark of France.
