England, admirals say industry decides if, where shipyards close

Article Abstract:

Some top admirals believe that contractors are making a decision to close down some shipyards if future Navy budgets fund very few ships. However, some military analysts view that the Department of Defense (DOD) should be concerned if privately owned shipyards begin to disappear, because that might mean less competition for Navy ship contracts and resultant higher prices paid by DOD and also because the US might lose some shipbuilding expertise needed for national security.

Clark decries soaring procurement costs, 'face the circumstances'

Article Abstract:

The chief of naval operations, Admiral Vern Clark, stated that prices of military hardware have increased more than consumer prices, which mean the Navy should increase its dollars and avoid buying outmoded systems. Some critics of the Navy budget which include many military analysts stated that the Navy budget plan is a disaster, because, if the reduced ships construction pace continued for years, it would lead to shrinking the Navy fleet.
