Article Abstract:

The Herald Times issued an 'EXTRA' edition on Jul 5, 1999, focusing on the fatal shooting of Korean graduate student Woon Joon Yon while on his way to the local Korean United Methodist Church in Bloomington, IN. The edition was distributed in local retail single-copy editions for free as a public service. The decision was done due to the heinous nature of the crime and to answer people's need for information. The newspaper's coverage of the shooting gave its Web site the highest number of hits for 1999, which was accessed by people from 70 countries.
