FIRM HITS HOME RUN WHEN IT COMES TO CUSTOMER SERVICE

Article Abstract:

Easton, a manufacturer of baseball bats, bent over backwards to provide excellent customer service when an 11-year-old needed a replacement for a cracked bat four days before an All-Star Little League Tournament. The warranty had expired, but the customer service representaitve asked to see the failed bat because it new of product problems and sent a replacement overnight. Company officials note that a good brand name is no longer adequate; on-time shipping and quality products as well as service count far more in today's market.

RECRUITERS WEIGH PERSONALITY TESTING: ASSESSMENT CAN BE VALUABLE, BUT IT NEEDS TO BE USED CAREFULLY

Personality testing can be a valuable business tool, but experts disagree as to how personality tests should be used. Dave Witte of executive search firm LAI Ward Howell believes that personality testing is useful in employee development, but not in hiring. Christian & Timbers VP Lorena Warren Clark, in contrast, thinks that personality tests, if they define the competencies and success criteria for particular jobs, are useful in making hiring decisions.
