Financial and estate planning trends

Article Abstract:

Financial and estate planning professionals discussed professional issues, statutory changes and recent case law in a meeting of the CCH Financial and Estate Planning Advisory Board. Changes in pension plan, S corporation, estate valuation, life insurance and expatriation tax laws were discussed, as were tax implications of changes in marital status. Accountants, trust professionals, financial planners and financial service providers discussed their roles in investment planning. Representatives of professional societies shared the perspectives of their organizations.

Trends in financial and estate planning

Article Abstract:

Issues of importance to accountants, attorneys, and other professionals engaged in estate and personal financial planning practices include substantive changes in tax laws as well as changes in the services that are being provided to clients. Tax relief for small businesses and increases in the unified credit for estate and gift tax are currently being considered. Many insurance and accounting professionals are expanding their services into the financial planning arena, creating new opportunities and potential conflicts.

Competitive convergence in the financial services markets

Article Abstract:

Financial services sold by different types of institutions, such as banks, securities dealers, and insurance companies, usually have different tax consequences. Increasingly, however, the services sold by these entities are becoming more and more similar. It is important that tax law ensure that similar services have similar tax consequences.
