Florida shines light on tobacco PR firms

Article Abstract:

The State of Florida has come up with a list that names over 70 companies and retailers as "supporters" of tobacco. The list, entitled "Tobacco Industry Supporters, was compiled by the Attorney General's Office and includes a number of advertising and PR firms such as Young & Rubicam, Burson Marsteller, and GCI Group. The initiative has been the first project launched by the0 Florida Pilot Program on Tobacco Control, a projected two-year, $200 million program launched in April 1998. Some of the PR firms included on the list said they were surprised at being called tobacco industry supporter and confused about the controversy.
