Futures price responses to USDA's Cold Storage report

Article Abstract:

A study performed on an event study of the US Department of Agriculture's Cold Storage report of data concerning pork bellies in cold storage shows that nearby pork belly and live hog futures prices respond markedly to the release of the report. This discovery of a notable response proves that the Cold Storage report is able to perform one of its public policy objectives as it offers helpful data to the private market.
