GAO says DOD should reveal cost of procurement program

Article Abstract:

A Government Accountability Office (GAO) report to the US congress asserted that the Department of Defense (DOD) had failed to list just what is concluded in its strategic defense triad, and just what it would cost to modernize the triad. The GAO found that although DOD had established its new triad plan in 2001, it had not developed a way to fully identify projected spending for the plan when compiling the periodically updated DOD future years budgeting plan.

Defense review may help decide which programs thrive: analysts

Article Abstract:

The Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) is a periodic Pentagon assessment of its future need for weapons, personnel and more and is a daunting exercise, which will balance limited funds. The issues that are to be addressed by QDR are the number of personnel that are to be increased in the Army, the consensus on which the Navy has to arrive for proper fleet size and the financial crunch faced by Air Force for its fighter procurement programs.

U.S. must procure new capabilities to counter China buildup

Article Abstract:

A U.S. military analyst is of the view that the current U.S. defense force must procure new capabilities to counter the military might that China will wield in just 10 or 15 years. He predicted that China making strides in virtually every area of military capability would mean that existing U.S. military hardware soon would not be viable for use near or over China.
