GM food plea by Soil Association

Article Abstract:

The Soil Association is urging the UK government to exercise caution in allowing genetically modified (GM) crops to be grown commercially, in particular oil seed rape, following research on rats fed on GM potatoes. The tests showed that the rats suffered from suppressed immune systems as a result of the jackbean lectin contained in the potatoes. The Soil Association is also concerned about the effects on neighbouring crops from cross-contamination. *
