Get a grip

Article Abstract:

Managing personal careers requires a good balance between learning and developing new skills and knowledge, exploiting or using those skills and coasting or doing the same tasks with the same set of skills. Some practical steps that can be used to achieve that balance include setting goals for self-improvement, developing the necessary networking skills, searching for the appropriate role models, developing the skills needed to teach other people, learning to manage personal careers in stages and always looking for opportunities to learn in any situation. The other steps include finding time to reflect on one's personal performance, working in an environment that is enjoyable, finding time for leisure activities and assessing personal performance annually.

Look at it my way

Article Abstract:

Many business organizations fail to attract the best candidates because they do not understand the recruitment process from the candidates' point of view. For most companies, this process is basically a rational one that is determined by the applicant's qualifications, experience and track record. Their goal is to find new personnel. In contrast, candidates view the recruitment process as an emotional experience. Many base their choice of a company on the 'feel' of the organization rather than on rational criteria. Furthermore, the goal of the recruitment process for them is to find a completely satisfying employment opportunity. Techniques to help companies attract and secure the best candidates are discussed.
