Getting involved in the community

Article Abstract:

VerticalNet's collection of 15 vertical online business-to-business communities is expected to gross $15 million in 1997 from sales of online advertisements. The 15 communities, selected on the basis of the number of industry participants, segment growth, possession of Standard Industrial Classification codes and number of product introductions, had collective page views of over one million in Oct 1997. The success was attributed to hiring of competent editors, marketing of their services in trade shows and improving the content of the web site.
