Government demand keeps satellite market alive

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Defense Department, one of the largest consumers of commercial satellite services in the world has its demand for satellite services more than 80 percent of the military's satellite communications. Hence, to boost their sales of commercial satellites, manufacturers are applying new technologies to increase their performance, due to which competition is leading to overcapacity and downward pressure on pricing.

Air Force adds nano, emergency response technology research

Article Abstract:

The US Air Force is adding new opportunities for specific research in nanotechnology and emergency response technologies so that they can support in future air and space operations. The Air Force Research Laboratory Nanotechnology Initiative will cover research in multispectral detector arrays, chip scale optical networks, compact power for space, nanoenergetics and nanomaterials for structures.

Calif. firm gets $877.5m anthrax deal under project BioShield

VaxGen Inc.of Brisbane, California is the first California biopharmaceutical company to win the $877.5M contract from the federal government's Project BioShield program to vaccinate Americans against the anthrax threat. The way in which it was performed and experimented is explained.
