Hagee urges building DD(X), LCS, LHD, JSF, Osprey

Article Abstract:

The Marine Corps commandant, General Michael Hagee, expresses his view that the Navy and Marine Corps, operating jointly, need the small but fast and agile Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), a coastal fighter, the DD(X) next-generation destroyer, and the new version of the LHD amphibious assault ship. He believes that the funding outlook is unclear for these programs in the fiscal year ending September 30, 2006 and hence a budget is being written at the Pentagon to serve the purpose of unclear funding.

Hagee sees need for huge ship-based tilt-rotor or blimp

Article Abstract:

Michael Hagee, the Marine Corps commandant stated that the Pentagon requires a huge C-130-type four-engine tilt-rotor aircraft or a cargo-carrying blimp to serve as a connector for moving troops and materiel from ships to shore during a war. The V-22 Osprey which is capable of hovering like an aircraft and flying like an airplane is expected to replace many of the aging helicopters though the program initially suffered a setback due to a series of fatal crashes in 2000.
