Harvey defends sending Humvees to Fort Hood: Tech installation faster at home, Secretary says

Article Abstract:

The Secretary of the Army Frances Harvey has defended his decision to send up-armored Humvees to Fort Hood instead of the Mid East at the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) hearing. Harvey stated that installation of a new Battle Command System on the vehicles at Fort Hood prior to deployment was deemed to be a much more efficient and effective way of adding this critical situational awareness, combat effectiveness and fratricide-prevention technology.

Army officials to plan through year's end for Fort Monmouth closure

Article Abstract:

The US Army officials at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey will be working through December 2005 to plan for the closure of the base should President and Congress accept recommendations that the base be closed. The Department of Defense (DOD) has proposed to close Fort Monmouth, which is home to the Army Communications and Electronics Command (CECOM), as part of an overall scheme to close some bases and alter others to save $50 billion in coming decades.

Army seeks waiver for swift buy of 6000 Raytheon radios

Article Abstract:

The Army is apt in buying 6000 copies of Raytheon's MicroLight software defined radios for which they requested a waiver under the Joint Tactical Radio Systems (JTRS) program to be able to buy the devices for immediate fielding. The device can be used for a number of applications but it is exclusively designed to help urban warfighters.
