Telecommuting, or working away from the office, is a concept that is increasing in popularity. A number of companies are starting to see the practicality of doing work usually done in the office at home with the aid of personal computers, facsimile machines and modems. The increasing sophistication of information technology (IT) can even extend remote working to a global scale. Caribbean and Southeast Asian nations are showing great potential as offshore information centers of the future. Becoming an offshore software haven requires satisfactory communications infrastructure for international links, good transport networks, educated and skilled workforce, and tax policies attractive to foreign investors.
